METROSTARS SOCCER PLAYERS SCORE POINTS WITH ROBERGE STUDENTS AS PART OF MATH INCENTIVE PROGRAM

River Vale, NJ, April 16, 2003 -- Roberge students are getting a kick out of math with help from the MetroStars, a professional soccer team. Players are scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m., April 29 (Tuesday), at the school on Westwood Avenue, River Vale.

The appearance is part of the MetroStars’ “Score at School” program, where students can earn complimentary tickets to a MetroStars game at Giants Stadium by completing certain classroom projects with set goals developed by their teachers. Roberge chose to highlight math as their school-wide goal. Students reached three math goals each, which varied by grade level.

The entire student body, kindergarten through fifth grade, participated in the program. All successfully completed the program and earned two tickets each.

“We wanted to have a math program that would be fun and entertaining, as well as educational,” said Basic Skills teacher Lauren Sudol, who organized Roberge’s “Score at School” program.

The students worked on many facets of math, from addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to problem solving skills and strategies.
