RIVER VALE SEARCHES FOR NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

River Vale, NJ, April 25, 2003 -- River Vale Schools Superintendent Frank Alvarez announced that the district is searching for a new principal at Holdrum Middle School. The current principal, Dr. Phyllis Prestia, is retiring effective Nov. 1.

The district began advertising for the job in several newspapers and interviews are expected to begin following spring recess. A small panel, made up of teachers and parents, will serve in an advisory capacity during the interview process.

“I anticipate an appointment in late May or June with the successful candidate joining us either over the summer or in September to provide for some transition time,” Dr. Alvarez said. “We are sorry to lose Dr. Prestia. She has made some wonderful contributions to the district, always providing a sense of order as well as a vision for the future.”

Dr. Prestia joined the district in 1992 as principal of the Roberge School. She received her doctorate in 1997, then became Holdrum’s principal that same year.

While in River Vale, she participated on the technology committee, the Gifted and Talented Program Committee, the Language Arts curriculum revision committee and the Goals 2000 Grant Program Committee.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to have served the children and the community of River Vale,” Dr. Prestia said. “I’ve seen many challenges, all for the better, over these 11 years, and I’m very proud to have been a part of that process.”

Prior to coming to River Vale, she worked as a writing specialist for the New Jersey State Department of Education, she served as an instructional supervisor in Pequannock Township and she taught English at Woodbridge High School for 13 years.
