HOLDRUM CREATES WALL OF HONOR FOR SOLDIERS OVERSEAS

River Vale, NJ, April 21, 2003 -- In honor of family and friends serving in Iraq, Holdrum Middle School students will gather at 9AM, Monday, April 28, at the school auditorium to talk about their definition of peace.

Those definitions -- students finishing the phrase “Peace is...” --  will be turned into a poem that will be posted on the new “Wall of Honor” the school is creating. The names of students’ relatives and others serving overseas will also be posted on the Wall. Language arts teachers are working with students on the project.

“We saw this as a need to bring the students together,” said Holdrum guidance counselor Maureen Monaghan, who helped come up with the idea for the Wall of Honor along with Principal Phyllis Prestia. “The kids have all been very excited about what we are doing here at the school. They want to do something to help during these difficult times. Bring everybody home safely -- that’s the focus.”

Two eighth grade Holdrum students recently hung yellow ribbons in support of soldiers outside the school. Both teens have relatives serving in Iraq.
