Matter Matters
As part of their curriculum first grade
students in Woodside School study about the three states of matter. Mrs.
Wolf takes things one step further in the SAGE program when the students
experiment to prove that air takes up space, has weight, and has
pressure. When a cardboard “sticks” to an overturned glass of water it
seems like magic. But it just shows that the air pressure pushing up on
the card is greater than the pressure pushing it down. The students act
like molecules changing from solid to liquid to gas as they pretend to heat
up. All matter is made of molecules and matter matters.
