A number of students at Woodside School submitted entries for the Reading Is Fundamental Back-to-School Writing Contest, an enrichment opportunity offered in Mrs. Wolf’s SAGE Newsletter. A story by Jonathan, a first grader at Woodside School, was chosen as a winner in this contest. The story, entitled “First Day Feelings,” earned him a prize package including a T-shirt, the latest Amelia Bedila book, Amelia Bedelia Bookworm, a Reading Planet Frisbee, a book light, and a VHS copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  Congratulations Jonathan!

First Day Feelings

In the morning I woke up, and I knew it was the first day of school. I went into my parents’ bedroom and saw my Daddy. I was happy to see my Daddy, and I knew he was going to take me to school.

I got dressed, ate breakfast, and went into the car. My stomach was getting nervous. I was nervous I might get in trouble. I couldn’t wait to see my new teacher and my new classroom. I walked to my line and went into my classroom. I loved the classroom. I looked for my desk and I found it. I did not know that I would be sitting next to Ryan. Ryan is my bestest friend in the whole world. I felt really really happy that he was sitting next to me. I forgot about being nervous.
