Boomer, from Trenton Thunder, Visits
Woodside School
After being on the waiting list since last year, Mrs. Wolf,
the SAGE teacher at Woodside School,
was able to get Trenton Thunder to come to Woodside
School for the first time for two
different assembly programs. Boomer’s
Baseball Tour, a motivational program for geography was presented to the fifth
grades. Students answered questions during a geography trivia game. The team members all received posters and
audience members who answered a question missed by the team members, were also
given a prize. The students were encouraged to write letters to the various
teams to receive pocket schedules. If
they send a copy of the letter they sent (to 10 teams) and a couple of
schedules they get back, they can receive two free tickets for a Trenton
Thunder game. Ed Zacharewicz
and Boomer, from the Trenton Thunder, also conducted an assembly for the second
through fourth graders to help motivate students to read more outside of their
school work. Prior to the assembly the
teachers read the poem “Casey at the Bat,” which was featured during the
assembly program. The message was that
reading is important because it helps you learn, it is fun, and it improves
your imagination. As students in the
audience answered questions they received Trenton Thunder lunch bags. Everyone got a bookmark on which they could
list 10 books they read. The teacher is
supposed to initial it and then students can send it in to receive two free
tickets to a Trenton Thunder game.
Boomer was a big hit and hopefully students will be motivated to read
outside of school.
