RIVER VALE STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY

RIVER VALE, NJ, DECEMBER 10, 2003 – A new class of boys and girls in blue will graduate from the River Vale Junior Police Academy at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 15, at Holdrum Middle School, Rivervale Road, River Vale.

The academy, run by several members of the River Vale Police Department, is designed to provide a link between the police and the young people in River Vale. The ceremony is a tribute to the dedication and hard work the class of 46 students has demonstrated.

“These students have been educated in a variety of police-related areas, and have also developed leadership abilities in an effort to better themselves as well as our community,” said Det. John J. DeVoe, who directs the program along with Officers Dino Dinelli, Valeri Speranza and Ismael Alsina.

River Vale students in grades 7 and 8 have the opportunity to gain knowledge about their local police department and the criminal justice system at large from River Vale police officers themselves, as well as members of other law enforcement agencies.

The program runs about 11 weeks. Session topics have ranged from the consequences of drinking and driving to fire awareness to patrol techniques, among others.
