Kindergarten “Trash Archaeologists”

Woodside kindergarten students have been playing the part of archaeologists as they sift through bags of items that might have been thrown out by various community helpers.  As part of a SAGE (Supplemental And Gifted Education) activity to enrich their study of community helpers, Mrs. Wolf brought in bags of items, many of them donated by firefighters, police personnel, dentists, etc.  Moving from site to site, students must close their eyes and “dig” something out of the bag.  After gathering a number of things their archaeological team must analyze their findings to determine who might have used them and what they might have been used for.  Using higher order thinking skills students were able to identify firefighters, doctors/nurses, police, librarians, dentists, mail carriers and more.
