Last year, through an offering in a SAGE Newsletter, Alyssa submitted a piece of poetry to the American Literacy Council’s poetry contest. Over the summer we were informed that her poem would be published in a new book entitled Impressions of Youth.  Below is a copy of that poem:

Super size your feet

and walk like a giant

step with crashing toes

on all your forgotten toys.

Walk through the center of your heart,

and your soul.

Stomp down on the memories,

your childhood story.

Erase the baby from your brain

and become the new person you need to be.

No more toys for you are now an adult.

The imaginary friends, stuffed animals, stories, and books,

they have all suddenly vanished from your life.

Say goodbye to the imaginary world you have lived in,

and now welcome to the real world!

Congratulations Alyssa!
