As part of the SAGE program
at Woodside School, the first grade students at Woodside School used compasses to find a treasure. After
familiarizing themselves with the compass rose, students worked with team
members to read clues that would lead them to other clues, so that they could
complete their scavenger hunt. With only
a compass and their orienteering skills, students navigated their way north,
south, east, and west around the field.
Once back in the classroom, they had a sweet treat and proceeded to further use their
navigation skills to locate “an invisible X” on a coordinate graph. These first
graders are ready to find their way to second grade.
