March 7, 2003

Dear Parents,

Over the past three weeks, the River Police Department had received up to date training for Higher Domestic Preparedness Warnings. In the event that a serious domestic alert should happen during a school day it is imperative that we have a Community Advisement System, and a plan for safe release of students.

The Police Department has purchased a new system called Swiftreach Networks. This system will replace “phone chains”. If it becomes necessary for all parents to pick their children up from school, this system will place all 700 phone calls in a few seconds.

We ask that you provide ONE home phone number and ONE emergency or cellular phone number. In an emergency both phone numbers will be called with a pre-recorded instructional message. Please hand in the form below, as soon as possible, so we may test the system. We intend to test during the week of  March 24, 2003, but you will be advised of the exact test date. If you have children in more than one school, please provide a form for each school; for children within the same school only one form per family is needed. Each school will have their own data base, and pick-up instructions may differ with each school. If you DO NOT WISH TO BE CALLED in the case of an emergency, please check below and fill in your name.

In the future, this system will be used for other types of emergency advisements in town. If you have any questions regarding this new system, please contact our Community Policing Office at 201-358-7773. Please hand in this form to your Homeroom teacher.

Thank you,

Aaron Back
Chief of Police
