In an attempt to teach children to respect drugs, no child will be permitted to take any medication in school unless this procedure is followed:

1.       The administration of medication to pupils shall be done only in exceptional circumstances when the child's health may be jeopardized without it.

2.       Parents must bring in medication, and at that time, complete a written request for the nurse to dispense said medication to the child.

3.       The medication must be in the original container labeled with the child's name, dosage and ordering physician's name.

4.       The school must have a written statement from the family physician which identifies the type, dosage and purpose of the medication.

5.       All medication must be given to the nurse after the child reports to homeroom and is to be left in the nurse's office.

6.       Students will report to the nurse's office to take medication.

7.       If your child is taking any medication on a continuing longer term basis, will you please notify the school nurse. In the event of a serious emergency, it might be very important that the hospital have this information.
