The   Hawk   is   always  watching.

Michael B-L is a 7th grader who believes that being a part of the school play is a great experience and a lot of fun. He

participated in last year’s play, The Sound of Music, and hopes to try for a lead role next year.

Teddy K., an 8th grader, began his involvement in the spelling bee three years ago. After hearing about it over the announcements, Teddy decided to try out for the spelling bee. One year, Teddy went to the state finals and came in 13th out of 300. He explained his experience as “fun and exciting.”

Nick C., a 6th grader, decided to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge because he wanted to raise money for the Special Olympics. He found out about it on the news, and didn’t know anyone else who had ever participated in this annual event.

Are you curious to know what it feels like to jump into frigid water  in the winter?  According to Nick, it is an extremely cold and numbing sensation.

Lenny M., Student Council President, explained some of the

annual activities sponsored by the Student Council such as the Holiday Gift

Baskets and Spirit Week. Every first or second week of January, students and staff dress according to a theme determined by the Student Council. The culmination of the week features a very spirited pep rally celebrating our school’s teams and class spirit. In April, the Student Council  will sell snacks at Holdrum’s play during intermission.                                                                            See Lenny  page 2

excellence in teaching by Montclair State University.  She won the coveted

Montclair State University Roche Middle School Teachers STEM

Excellence Award for Math and Science. Mrs. Zhang competed with many

science and math teachers in order to receive this award.  She was among
